Hiking shoes

Choosing the right footwear depends on the type of terrain you’ll be on; essentially, there are 3 main categories:

  1. – low-cut hiking shoes

Low-cut hiking shoes are lightweight models that ensure great freedom of movement. However, they offer limited ankle protection.

They are suitable for:

  • very easy trails
  • T and E difficulty routes in good conditions
  • hilly, simple mountain, or urban environments
  • Ideally made of Gore-Tex or similar
  • Ideally with a Vibram sole

They’re perfect when you want to walk comfortably without needing special support.

  • – mid-cut hiking boots

Mid-cut hiking boots wrap around the ankle and offer good protection from rocks or gravel while remaining relatively light.

They are suitable for:

  • medium difficulty trails (E and EE)
  • easy trails, if you want more stability
  • multi-day treks

Features:

  • well-treaded sole, preferably in “Vibram” rubber
  • Ideally in Gore-Tex
  • flexible insoles
  • they don’t require a long break-in period

They represent an excellent compromise between comfort, protection, and versatility.

  1. – high-cut hiking boots

High-cut hiking boots offer maximum ankle protection and stability.

They are suitable for:

  • challenging trails
  • uneven or steep terrain
  • hikes with a heavy backpack

Once broken in, they guarantee excellent comfort and superior support, which is particularly useful when the load or difficulty increases.
